The Federal Government's decision to nearly triple Sabah's interim Special Grant allocation—raising it from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion—underscores its dedication to upholding the state's rights enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, according to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. He described Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement on May 31 as a watershed moment for bolstering Sabah's fiscal security.
While litigation continues over Sabah's entitlement to 40 per cent of federal revenue, GRS remains steadfast that the Special Grant review under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution should proceed swiftly, with formal gazettement of the revised allocation occurring this year. Armizan highlighted that this stance aligns with the MADANI Government's public recognition, notably during a November 13, 2025 Dewan Rakyat address by the Prime Minister, acknowledging Sabah's constitutional right to the 40 per cent entitlement.
Armizan, who also serves as Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, convened a meeting with several Sabah parliamentarians to review progress on implementing the state's 40 per cent revenue share—a longstanding priority and demand from the region. The gathering reflected ongoing efforts to advance critical Sabah interests through consultation with federal authorities.
Moving forward, GRS pledged to maintain a constructive yet resolute approach in safeguarding Sabah's interests and rights by engaging in sustained discussions, negotiations, and collaborative efforts with the Federal Government.
