Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has urged MADANI Communities nationwide to shoulder responsibility for ensuring citizens receive truthful and properly verified details about government policies, initiatives and accomplishments. Speaking at the Jiwa MADANI programme in Kota Bharu on June 16, Fahmi stressed that this task cannot rest exclusively with official bodies such as the Information Department (JAPEN) and the Community Communications Department (J-KOM), but must be tackled as a collective effort.
The minister highlighted several recent policy successes that warrant wider public awareness. Government efforts to maintain food security have included keeping rice stockpiles adequate during major celebrations through schemes overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Similarly, the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme System (eCOSS) administered by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has made subsidised cooking oil more consistently available to households.
"These achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are examples that MADANI Communities must convey to the public," Fahmi stated. During the event, he presented appointment letters to Kelantan MADANI Community leaders for the 2026-2027 term.
To support community leaders in this messaging role, the Communications Ministry plans to conduct regular briefing sessions keeping them abreast of policy developments and administrative initiatives requiring grassroots communication. The Information Department will also monitor MADANI Communities' effectiveness in spreading information at the community level.
Fahmi warned that underperforming community units would face scrutiny and potential replacement. "We will ask JAPEN to respond quickly if any MADANI Community becomes inactive. If that occurs, we will make the necessary adjustments, including replacing those not meeting expectations," he concluded.
