Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the government to prioritise technological advancement through foreign direct investment in Artificial Intelligence and quantum computing, rather than becoming consumed by political squabbles. Speaking at the PH Grand Rally "Justice for the People of Johor" in Muar on June 15, he emphasised that these emerging technologies represent the future prosperity of Malaysian youth.
Anwar highlighted recent diplomatic missions to Japan as part of broader efforts to establish data centres and secure AI-related investments for the nation. Such initiatives, he argued, would position Malaysia as a globally competitive economy capable of attracting international capital and expertise.
The Prime Minister expressed frustration with what he characterised as perpetual partisan disputes that detract from governance. He questioned the value of constant wrangling over religious and communal matters when urgent national priorities demand attention, underscoring that such divisions waste resources needed for development.
Calling for cross-ethnic cooperation, Anwar appealed to citizens across all communities to support the government's vision. He noted that Malaysia's reputation has improved internationally, with foreign investors increasingly interested in establishing operations here without extensive promotional campaigns.
As PKR President and PH Chairman, Anwar also cautioned political leaders against weaponising sentiments of resentment and division. He stressed that successful governance requires listening to constituent needs and proposing solutions, not exploiting grievances for electoral advantage. PKR Vice-President Datuk Seri Dr. Zaliha Mustafa and Johor PH Chairman Aminolhuda Hassan were also present at the event.
