Three individuals were arrested in Pekan on June 15 following an investigation into the illegal sale and forgery of medical leave certificates. The District Health Office lodged a report on June 10 after receiving information about the fraudulent scheme. The three detainees, all in their 30s, include a mechanic, a workshop owner and a cleaner who are believed to have facilitated the operation as middlemen.

According to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the forged certificates were being sold for between RM50 and RM200 each. The scheme came to light when someone who purchased a certificate reported the matter to the health authorities. The medical officer whose name appeared on the documents confirmed he had been transferred to another location in 2023, and that the stamp used was outdated and no longer authorised for use.

Investigations suggest the operation was structured and systematic, with intermediaries responsible for identifying buyers and handling transactions. The main suspect, yet to be apprehended, is believed to be a female government health clinic worker who supplied the fraudulent certificates to the intermediaries.

The three arrested individuals will appear before the Pekan Magistrate's Court on June 16 for a remand application. Police are pursuing charges under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which cover forgery and fraud respectively. The hunt continues for the primary suspect involved in the scheme.
