The declaration came after the country successfully completed a 42-day period without identifying any new confirmed cases of the virus, meeting the international benchmark for declaring the end of an Ebola transmission cycle. Marie Roseline Belizaire, representing the WHO, confirmed the milestone during a regional briefing coordinated by the WHO Regional Office for Africa, underscoring the significance of Uganda's achievement in containing what had been an urgent health emergency.

Uganda's Ministry of Health had already signalled its confidence in the outbreak's conclusion on July 28, when it announced that scientific evidence definitively showed transmission chains had been broken.
